Youth Project

The Youth Project works with young people living the within the catchment area of Donnycarney Parish. In consultation with the young people DYP facilitates a variety of programmes and activities aimed at nurturing the young people’s individual talents, abilities, while creating opportunities for new learning experiences that will enhance their personal development and equip them in adulthood to play an active part in society. Our work is guided by the definition of youth work which states that youth work is a:

“Planned programme of education designed for the purpose of aiding and enhancing the personal and social development of young persons through their voluntary participation and which is complimentary to their formal, academic or vocational education and training and provided primarily by voluntary youth organisations”. (Youth Work Act 2001).

The Donnycarney Youth Project strives to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for young people and adults in the community by promoting positive life choices. We aim to respond to local needs in relation to young people and those affected by drug use.

Programmes are designed and adapted to meet the individual and groups needs of the young people attending the project. Sports, Music, Arts, Cooking, Sexual Health, Personal Development, and Youth Leadership Training are examples of the types of programmes facilitated by Donnycarney Youth Project. When the need arises we work with young people on a one to one basis to support them through specific issues or to achieve certain goals.

“DYP believes that all young people and children are valued members of our society. We promote inclusion and work to create equal opportunities for all young people.”
